Iconic Satoshi Nakamoto statue recovered by Lugano municipality
The stolen statue of Bitcoin creator Satoshi Nakamoto, an emblem of the global Bitcoin movement, has been recovered by the municipality of Lugano, Switzerland. The statue, which had been vandalized and thrown into Lake Lugano, was discovered in pieces by municipal workers. It was created by Italian artist Valentina Picozzi and took 21 months to design and construct. Satoshigallery, the collective behind the statue, had previously offered a reward of 0.1 BTC, valued at over $11,000, for its recovery. The Bitcoin community expressed outrage at the vandalism, with figures like Gabor Gurbacs condemning the act and others speculating that it might have been caused by celebrators of Swiss National Day. Satoshigallery reaffirmed its commitment to installing similar statues around the world, emphasizing that the spirit of the Bitcoin movement cannot be extinguished by acts of vandalism.
