Bhutan is integrating cryptocurrency payments into its tourism sector to modernize its economy and attract tech-savvy travelers. The country's tourism director, Damcho Rinzin, highlighted the difficulties posed by outdated payment infrastructure, which tourists find cumbersome. With Binance Pay, users can make payments in crypto at nearly 1,000 merchants across Bhutan. This strategy aims to welcome a new demographic of travelers aligned with Bhutan’s sustainable tourism vision. The government hopes to attract 300,000 crypto users annually, emphasizing the efficiency and lower fees of crypto payments over traditional banking. However, adoption is still developing, with some merchants reporting low usage of crypto payments. Nonetheless, the move to accept crypto reflects Bhutan's evolving tourism identity, attracting travelers who want to utilize digital currencies while exploring the country.
