HIVE Digital Technologies is set to acquire a 7.2-megawatt data center in Toronto, aiming to establish a key infrastructure for artificial intelligence through its subsidiary BUZZ HPC. The facility will be enhanced to support liquid cooling and accommodate up to 5,000 GPUs, facilitating large-scale AI model training and inference. This marks BUZZ HPC's first major venture into operating its own data center as HIVE transitions from cryptocurrency mining to AI and cloud services with a focus on renewable energy. The acquisition is part of a broader competition among nations to develop AI infrastructure, emphasizing Canada's digital sovereignty and innovation leadership in the sector. Craig Tavares, president and COO of BUZZ HPC, highlighted the importance of having a Canadian-owned data center to ensure data security and support domestic enterprises and government workloads.
