Nobitex, the largest cryptocurrency exchange in Iran, has begun restoring services following a cyber attack by the pro-Israel hacker group Gonjeshke Darande. The exchange is prioritizing withdrawals for verified users and has warned against depositing funds into old wallets, which may lead to loss of assets due to wallet migration. These withdrawals began on June 30, and while trading and depositing will gradually resume, no specific timeline has been established. The hack was politically motivated, associating Nobitex with the Iranian government amid geopolitical tensions. The hacking group claimed to have stolen over $15 million worth of assets and highlighted Nobitex's connections to sanctioned entities. Following the breach, Iranian authorities have increased scrutiny on domestic exchanges, which are now limited in operational hours. Incidents of state-sponsored hacking have surged in 2025, with North Korean hackers being notably active in exploiting crypto exchanges.
