Ex-FTX Exec’s Plea Deal Still at the Center of Court Case
Ryan Salame, a former executive at FTX, is serving a seven-and-a-half-year sentence for his involvement in the crypto exchange's collapse. His plea deal with U.S. prosecutors is crucial to the case against his wife, Michelle Bond, who faces charges of campaign finance violations. Bond's legal team is seeking to have her testify in court against prosecutors' objections, arguing that her testimony regarding her and Salame's state of mind is relevant. Salame pleaded guilty to conspiracy related to unlawful political contributions and fraud against the Federal Election Commission. His plea deal also involves allegations that $400,000 from FTX was funneled to Bond's campaign. A scheduled evidentiary hearing in the Southern District of New York will allow Bond’s lawyers to argue for her testimony and potentially call a former Assistant U.S. Attorney to speak on any inducements made to Salame. The unfolding courtroom drama continues as legal battles linked to FTX executives persist, nearly three years after the firm's downfall.
