Ex-FTX Exec’s Plea Deal Still at the Center of Court Case
Ryan Salame, a former executive of FTX, is currently imprisoned for his involvement in the failure of the cryptocurrency exchange, while his plea agreement with U.S. prosecutors is under scrutiny in the criminal proceedings against his wife, Michelle Bond. As they face charges of campaign finance violations, Bond is set to testify in court despite prosecutors arguing her testimony may be irrelevant. The case revolves around allegations that Salame facilitated $400,000 in unlawful contributions related to Bond's political campaign. Bond has maintained her innocence against the charges brought against her in August 2024. Salame, who pled guilty to conspiracy charges in 2024, initially sought to withdraw his plea, claiming it depended on Bond not facing criminal charges, but later dropped this motion. An evidentiary hearing is scheduled to allow Bond and potentially former prosecutors to discuss the circumstances of Salame's plea agreement, further complicating the intertwined legal battles stemming from the FTX collapse.
