Ethereum’s Fusaka upgrade may face delay
Ethereum’s next major upgrade, Fusaka, is still on track for a November 2025 mainnet fork. However, during the recent All Core Devs Consensus call, it was suggested that consensus-client teams require an additional four weeks before the release candidates are finalized. The current deadline for finalizing releases is set for September 1, and the new timeline would push it to the end of September. Fusaka aims to enhance validator duties and introduce PeerDAS to improve blob data distribution, increasing the maximum blob limit per block. Testing areas, including non-finality and private mempool behavior, are crucial to ensure the upgrade’s success. Additionally, this upgrade is linked to further improvements in scaling blob data capacity without necessitating another hard fork. Despite frustrations over the timing of the delay request, there is a consensus that delivering a well-tested code is prioritized over strict timelines, with Holesky, the long-lived testnet, set to launch in September. The main concern remains the timeline, as any delays could affect the overall scaling schedule of the Ethereum ecosystem.
