Ethereum Foundation’s near-term UX priority is interoperability
Ethereum Foundation researchers have emphasized that interoperability is the primary near-term priority for Ethereum development. They identified it as a significant opportunity to enhance user experience within the next six to twelve months. The emphasis is on intent-based architecture, allowing users to express their desired outcomes while the network manages low-level transactions. The Foundation aims to enhance cross-chain message-passing infrastructure to ensure smooth execution across layer-1 and rollups. The research team noted that Ethereum's ecosystem is fragmented due to multiple layer-2 protocols, leading to challenges in standardization and fast message passing. Developers are focusing their interoperability work on three areas: initialization, acceleration, and finalization. Projects within the initialization phase include frameworks for open intents and establishing interoperability standards to ensure consistent cross-chain experiences. Enhancements in speed across all layers and improved finishing touches, such as zero-knowledge proof support and finality times, are concurrently being explored. These developments are crucial for overcoming current interoperability bottlenecks and facilitating better user interactions across the Ethereum ecosystem.
