Ethereum Foundation Pauses Open Grants to Focus on Strategic Funding Model
The Ethereum Foundation has paused the open grant application process for its Ecosystem Support Program (ESP) to transition to a more strategic funding model. This change follows the foundation's challenge in managing a high volume of applications, which has hindered its ability to pursue new strategic initiatives. While the ESP will continue to fund projects, it will now adopt a more curated approach that aligns better with the ecosystem's priorities. In 2024, the ESP awarded nearly $3 million to support various initiatives, but specific details on the new methodology and ecosystem priorities will be provided in the fourth quarter of 2025. The foundation aims to enhance Ethereum's scalability and user experience while countering competition from faster platforms.
