EigenLayer Brings Multichain AVS Support to L2 Networks
Eigen Labs has announced a significant upgrade to its protocol, Eigenlayer, allowing decentralized services to operate on layer-2 networks while maintaining Ethereum-grade security. This new multichain verification feature, launched on the Sepolia Testnet within the Base network, enables Actively Validated Services (AVS) to utilize both security and scalability without choosing between the two. CEO Sreeram Kannan emphasized that this evolution allows developers to benefit from faster, cheaper environments alongside Ethereum's robust security. The upgrade is seen as a critical milestone and is expected to expand to other networks in the near future, with plans for a mainnet release in Q3 2025. Kannan highlighted the importance of the ecosystem found within Base as a driving factor for their partnership. The system will also allow validators' stake weights, configurations, and penalties to sync across supported chains, ensuring a secure environment for all AVS deployed on different blockchains.
