Eigen Labs has laid off 29 employees, which represents 25% of its workforce, as part of a strategic shift to emphasize its EigenCloud product. CEO Sreeram Kannan indicated that the layoffs were not due to financial issues, as the company has sufficient financial runway after raising $220 million, including a $70 million investment from a16z. The restructuring aims to align resources with product development and key user scenarios, allowing the remaining team to focus on building and expanding EigenCloud. Affected employees will receive three months of severance pay and accelerated vesting on tokens, in addition to career support. Kannan expressed optimism about the future, citing the growing demand for verifiable compute in the AI era, which EigenCloud is positioned to meet with robust backing.
