Deutsche Bank to launch crypto custody accounts in 2026
Deutsche Bank plans to launch a crypto custody service in 2026 in partnership with Bitpanda and Taurus, marking its expansion into digital asset services in Europe. The initiative aims to enable clients to store cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin. This development aligns with Deutsche Bank's growing interest in the cryptocurrency market, which was first indicated in 2020. In addition to the custody service, the bank's head of digital assets has stated that Deutsche Bank is exploring the possibility of issuing its own stablecoin or participating in stablecoin projects, highlighting the potential and regulatory support for stablecoins in the U.S. Moreover, the bank is contemplating a tokenized deposit solution for payments and has worked on its Ethereum layer-2 blockchain using ZKsync technology. Deutsche Bank has been actively involved in enhancing crypto payment solutions since mid-2024, although it has declined to comment on specific collaborations or developments regarding its crypto initiatives, as has Bitpanda.
