Czech authorities have detained convicted drug trafficker Tomas Jirikovsky in connection with a $45 million bitcoin donation to the Ministry of Justice, which created a political uproar earlier this year. The police operation was conducted by the National Centre for Combating Organised Crime as part of a broader investigation into suspected money laundering and drug trafficking. This case has been separated from an earlier probe revealed in May. The donation was initially accepted by then-Justice Minister Pavel Blazek without proper verification of its origins, leading to his resignation amid public scrutiny. Jirikovsky donated 468 bitcoins, which were alleged to be proceeds from illegal drug activities. The investigation has sparked political turmoil, including a recent no-confidence vote against Prime Minister Petr Fiala's ruling coalition, which narrowly survived.
