Crypto’s Flash Boys: A Q&A With Austin Federa on DoubleZero
Austin Federa, former Head of Strategy at the Solana Foundation, discussed DoubleZero, a blockchain layer announced in December 2024 that aims to be faster than the internet. As of now, approximately 12.57% of SOL staked operates on the DoubleZero testnet, which is designed to enhance the communication and scalability of blockchains. The network will launch its mainnet in September and expects to have over 50 fiber links that will greatly increase data transmission speeds. Federa emphasized that performance is no longer just about trade logic but the speed at which data can travel between market events. The potential benefits of using DoubleZero include quicker data transmission and a future where protocol designers can significantly increase operational limits, which might create a disparity between validators on the public internet and those on DoubleZero. This innovative protocol is seen as essential for the next generation of decentralized systems.
