Dwayne Golden has been sentenced to nearly eight years in prison for defrauding investors through his involvement in three cryptocurrency schemes: EmpowerCoin, ECoinPlus, and Jet-Coin. These scams, which operated between April and August 2017, collectively deceived investors out of more than $40 million. Golden, along with co-defendants Gregory Aggesen and Marquis Egerton, misrepresented their companies as legitimate cryptocurrency trading operations and promised guaranteed returns that never materialized. Instead, funds were used to repay earlier investors or for personal gain. After the schemes collapsed, Golden attempted to obstruct investigations by destroying evidence. He has also been ordered to forfeit approximately $2.46 million. His sentencing serves as a warning to others in the cryptocurrency space about the seriousness of such fraudulent activities.
