Crypto Liquidations Top $500 Million as Bitcoin, Ethereum and XRP Sink Into the Weekend
Bitcoin and Ethereum saw significant drops on Friday alongside a decline in stocks, following recently released inflation data. Bitcoin fell to around $108,617, marking a 4% decrease in just 24 hours, and has lost approximately 12% since reaching an all-time high of $124,128 earlier this month. Ethereum also experienced a decline, trading at nearly $4,295, a 6% dip from the previous day, down 13% from its record high of $4,946 set on August 24. The downturn resulted in substantial losses for futures traders, with $535 million liquidated across positions. XRP, the third-largest cryptocurrency, dropped 6% to about $2.84. The declines are compounded by seasonal trends, as September historically presents challenges for both cryptocurrencies and stocks. Analysts suggest that further sell-offs may occur as the month progresses, despite Ethereum's recent performance buoying investor sentiment regarding its potential recovery by year-end.
