Crypto Exchange Gemini Secures MiCA License in Malta
Gemini, the cryptocurrency exchange founded by the Winklevoss twins, has successfully obtained a Markets in Crypto Assets (MiCA) license from the Malta Financial Services Authority. This achievement is part of Gemini's strategy to expand its operations across the European Union, following the recent acquisition of a MiFID II license which allows it to offer trading derivatives. With this new license, Gemini aims to roll out its products and services to customers in over 30 EU jurisdictions, reinforcing its commitment to compliance with the EU's regulatory framework for digital assets. The MiCA regulation, which aims to streamline crypto regulation across member states, was implemented earlier this year, marking a significant step towards legal clarity in the sector. Gemini's ongoing efforts in regulation position it for future product offerings, including derivatives for both retail and institutional clients. Additionally, the exchange is moving forward with plans for an initial public offering, having appointed major financial institutions to manage the process.
