This week, crypto address poisoning scams resulted in over $1.6 million in losses, surpassing the total for the month of March. One victim lost 140 Ether, equivalent to around $636,500, by mistakenly sending funds to a lookalike address from a contaminated wallet history. Other victims reported losses of $880,000, $80,000, and $62,000 due to similar scams. Address poisoning works by sending small transactions from similar-looking wallet addresses, encouraging users to copy the wrong address for future transactions. Cybersecurity firm ScamSniffer highlights the importance of using address books or whitelists and verifying addresses in full before sending funds. In addition to these losses, victims also lost at least $600,000 by signing malicious signatures, which included commands related to cryptocurrency transactions. ScamSniffer warns that measures must be taken to prevent such losses by exercising caution during transactions.
