Concordium has launched a mobile app that enables users to verify their age without revealing their identity, responding to growing privacy concerns amidst the UK's new mandatory ID verification for accessing adult content. The app, available for iOS and Android, utilizes zero-knowledge proofs (ZK-proofs) to create an encrypted ID for age checks on third-party services while keeping personal information private. Users can create a Concordium ID for a nominal fee, allowing verification of details such as name and date of birth without exposing this data to the service providers. The launch comes as privacy advocates criticize the UK’s age verification regulations, pushing users towards VPN apps and raising debates about data protection. Meanwhile, Ofcom has indicated that digital ID wallets sharing an “adult/over-18” attribute could comply with the new laws, possibly validating the use of ZK-proof-based solutions. Google Wallet has also announced similar age verification implementations using ZK-proofs, indicating broader interest in privacy-focused solutions.
