CoinDCX Employee Arrested Over $44M Exchange Hack
A CoinDCX employee, Rahul Agarwal, was arrested in Bengaluru after a $44 million crypto theft linked to a sophisticated hacking scheme. Hackers tricked Agarwal into installing malware on his office laptop by luring him with false freelance job offers. After initially using his personal laptop, Agarwal switched to his office device, which allowed hackers to access the exchange's liquidity wallet. The fraud was detected on July 19 when a test transfer preceded the major theft. CoinDCX stated that customer funds remained safe and is covering the loss with its treasury reserves. A bounty of up to $11 million is being offered for information leading to the recovery of the stolen assets. The case highlights ongoing challenges in tracing stolen cryptocurrency due to its borderless nature and limited regulations, as police struggle to track the movement of funds across digital wallets.
