CertiK predicts 'endless war' with crypto hackers after $2.5B stolen
CertiK co-founder Ronghui Gu warns that the crypto industry is engaged in an ongoing battle against hackers, who exploit human vulnerabilities as the weakest link in security protocols. Despite improvements in cybersecurity measures, which have led to a decrease in the number of hacking incidents, losses from crypto hacks reached approximately $2.47 billion in the first half of 2025. This amount represents a slight increase compared to the total losses of $2.4 billion in 2024. Many incidents stemmed from operational risks such as private key compromises, reflecting the focus of hackers on human behavior rather than technical flaws. For instance, social engineering schemes have resulted in significant losses, including an $800,000 theft due to a single fraudulent transaction. Gu emphasizes that as cybersecurity advancements reduce technical vulnerabilities, the focus for hackers shifts increasingly towards manipulating individuals, continuing an 'endless war' against crypto security.
