A software limitation in Ledger hardware wallets is preventing some Cardano users from participating in the Midnight Foundation’s Glacier Drop, which is distributing NIGHT tokens across several blockchain ecosystems. Cardano co-founder Charles Hoskinson revealed that the issue stems from Ledger's implementation of CIP-8, which restricts message sizes to 31 bytes, while the Glacier Drop's payload is 251 bytes. A temporary workaround is being deployed using metadata in null transactions for affected users. Midnight Foundation President Fahmi Syed confirmed they are in contact with Ledger regarding this issue, which also affects users of XRP and Avalanche. The Midnight Foundation plans to roll out a secure solution by the week of August 25th. Despite the Ledger issue, token claims during the airdrop have exceeded 120 million across all participating platforms, emphasizing the collaborative nature of the project.
