A Brazilian woman was kidnapped for a Bitcoin ransom linked to her son's crypto trading activities. In a case reported by local media, her kidnappers, a gang of two men and two women, believed she had access to significant crypto assets after stalking her son's social media. Following her abduction, the mother was threatened with a weapon for 12 hours until her son, living in Portugal, transferred approximately $600,000 in Bitcoin. Brazilian police apprehended the four suspects involved. This incident is part of a troubling trend known as 'wrench attacks' where criminals target individuals for their cryptocurrency holdings. Recent cases have highlighted the increasing incidence of such crimes globally, including similar kidnappings in London and France, underscoring the risks poses by publicly sharing cryptocurrency-related information.
