Botanix, a Bitcoin-based EVM chain, reaches mainnet
Botanix Labs has launched its mainnet, introducing the first fully decentralized, EVM-equivalent Bitcoin layer-2. Users gain access to familiar DeFi features like trading, borrowing, lending, and staking in Bitcoin, with transaction finality in five seconds and average fees of around $0.02. Botanix employs a unique security model based on BTC-staked Orchestrator nodes, which utilize randomness from Bitcoin block hashes to manage a multisig peg system, addressing concerns linked to wrapped bitcoin models on Ethereum. The governance structure has transitioned to a decentralized model, expanding to over 100 permissionless nodes. Botanix's aim is to establish a robust DeFi ecosystem, launching protocols like Rover, which allows liquid staking of BTC funded by network gas fees, and Palladium, a CDP-style protocol enabling interest-free loans backed by BTC. In addition, Botanix plans a promotional campaign celebrating Bitcoin's culture, allowing users to explore interactive content related to its services.
