Boerse Stuttgart launches Seturion for tokenized asset settlement in Europe
Boerse Stuttgart has launched Seturion, a blockchain-based platform aimed at unifying the settlement of tokenized assets across Europe. The platform facilitates cross-border transactions and supports both public and private blockchains, allowing settlement in either central bank money or on-chain cash. Following its testing by local banks in collaboration with the European Central Bank (ECB), Seturion is actively operational at BX Digital, Boerse Stuttgart's regulated DLT trading venue in Switzerland. The initiative comes at a time when various financial institutions are exploring the benefits of tokenization for traditional financial instruments like bonds, equities, and real estate. Initiatives under the European regulatory framework for blockchain were established in March 2023, encouraging market players to adopt blockchain infrastructure in capital markets. Other global trends in tokenization include the launch of investment products by BlackRock and the expansion of services by firms like Robinhood and Taurus, reflecting a significant movement toward integrating blockchain technology in financial markets.
