Bitvavo Secures a MiCA License From the Netherlands
Bitvavo has successfully acquired a Markets in Crypto Assets (MiCA) License from the Dutch Authority for the Financial Markets (AFM), enabling the company to operate across all 30 nations in the European Economic Area. This move places Bitvavo alongside other notable exchanges like Kraken, Coinbase, and Bybit, which have also secured MiCA licenses to facilitate their operations in Europe. The MiCA regulatory framework, effective since December 2023, aims to standardize crypto asset regulations across the European Union, including Iceland, Norway, and Liechtenstein. Bitvavo, the largest player in the EUR spot market, previously held registrations in France, Austria, Italy, and Spain. Mark Nuvelstijn, CEO of Bitvavo, emphasized that this new license would help the platform intensify its ambition to dominate the European digital asset trading market.
