Metaplanet, a Bitcoin treasury company, has been upgraded to mid-cap status and added to the FTSE Japan Index as part of FTSE Russell’s September 2025 semi-annual review. This inclusion directs passive capital flows into Bitcoin, supporting BTC floor prices. Metaplanet has significantly outperformed the Tokyo Stock Price Index (TOPIX) Core 30 with a 187% year-to-date gain against TOPIX's 7.2%. Currently, Metaplanet holds 18,888 BTC, making it the seventh-largest publicly traded holder. Originally a hotel operator, the company rebranded in 2024 and aims to accumulate 210,000 BTC by 2027. CEO Simon Gerovich has mentioned potential expansions into digital banking or adjacent businesses, signaling continued growth in the digital asset space.
