Remy St Felix, the 25-year-old leader of a Florida home invasion crew, has been sentenced to an additional seven years in prison for attacking a witness who testified against him. St Felix was already serving a 47-year sentence for orchestrating violent home invasions targeting cryptocurrency owners, resulting in the theft of $3.5 million. His recent attack occurred in a detention center where he assaulted a witness while calling him a ‘rat’. This assault took place after his conviction on nine counts, including kidnapping. Although the new sentence adds to his time inside, 36 months will run concurrently with his existing sentence, effectively extending his prison time by nearly four years. This incident highlights an alarming trend, as there has been a rise in physical violence, termed ‘wrench attacks’, against cryptocurrency owners where individuals are targeted and beaten to bypass security measures. St Felix's crew made headlines for their violent methods, including hostage situations, and their actions have prompted increased attention from law enforcement.
