Bitcoin bull and billionaire files for $250M SPAC targeting DeFi, AI
Chamath Palihapitiya, an early Bitcoin investor and billionaire, has filed to raise $250 million for a special purpose acquisition company (SPAC) named American Exceptionalism Acquisition Corp A. This SPAC aims to focus on decentralized finance (DeFi), artificial intelligence (AI), energy, and defense. The registration statement, submitted to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), indicates an offering of 25 million shares priced at $10 each under the ticker AEXA on the New York Stock Exchange. Palihapitiya, alongside CEO Steven Trieu, sees the future of financial innovation in the integration of traditional finance with DeFi. They highlighted recent successes in DeFi as proof of its potential to disrupt traditional finance. Despite setbacks with earlier SPACs, Palihapitiya remains optimistic about the advancements in decentralized finance, stating that while the trajectory of crypto has taken longer than expected, progress is now seen as inevitable. Notably, this initiative comes two years after Palihapitiya controversially stated that the crypto industry was 'dead in America.'
