Binance Exec Tigran Gambaryan Leaves Firm, Months After Nigerian Hostage Crisis
Tigran Gambaryan, the head of financial crime compliance at Binance, has left the company after four years of working on investigations related to illicit finance and cybercrimes. His departure comes shortly after he was detained by Nigerian authorities for eight months in 2024, an ordeal that affected his health during his confinement. Gambaryan announced that he is seeking new challenges in both the public and private sectors focusing on roles related to technology compliance. He built a team of around 100 former prosecutors and law enforcement experts at Binance, responding to numerous law enforcement requests during his tenure. This departure marks a significant change for Binance, which has seen multiple executives leave in recent years amidst various regulatory challenges and internal changes, including the resignation of founder Changpeng Zhao. Gambaryan expressed a commitment to continue making a difference in compliance and enforcement within the blockchain space, mentioning the growing need for experienced operators in the industry.
