Billions in Ethereum Waiting to Be Unstaked Could Add Sell Pressure to ETH: Analyst
Ethereum stakers are increasingly lining up to withdraw their ETH, potentially exerting significant sell pressure on the cryptocurrency. The Ethereum blockchain's validator exit queue reached an all-time high of 855,158 ETH, valued at approximately $3.7 billion. This surge in withdrawal interest occurs amid a recent price dip in Ethereum, which has lost over 3% following an attempt to reach a new all-time high. The limitations set by the Ethereum network on unstaking could prevent mass exits but raise concerns about future market conditions. Analysts suggest that if staked ETH trades at a discount, it may trigger further sell-offs, especially if leveraged trades become unprofitable as borrowing costs increase. Despite the growing queue, experts caution that a rise in unstaked ETH does not necessarily lead to a price crash but might serve as a steady supply tap affecting market dynamics.
