At least 1 Bitcoiner gets kidnapped every week — Crypto exec
Alena Vranova, founder of SatoshiLabs, expressed serious concerns about the rise in wrench attacks, kidnappings, and physical assaults targeting Bitcoin and crypto holders. Speaking at the Baltic Honeybadger 2025 conference in Latvia, she noted that at least one Bitcoiner is kidnapped each week, with attacks occurring even for those with relatively small amounts of cryptocurrency. Cases have been reported where individuals were abducted for as little as $6,000 in crypto. Vranova highlighted that these violent incidents are increasingly linked to data breaches from centralized exchanges, where sensitive user information is leaked. With over 80 million identities exposed, including home addresses of 2.2 million users, the criminal response is amplified during bull markets as Bitcoin prices rise. She referenced a recent data breach involving Coinbase and a massive leak of credentials from various platforms, indicating a growing threat to crypto investors and their families.
