Aave Users Targeted by Google Ads Phishing Scam After $60B Milestone
Aave, a decentralized liquidity protocol, recently surpassed $60 billion in net deposits, only to fall victim to a phishing attack the following day. Scammers used Google Ads to create fake investment platforms, tricking Aave users into linking their wallets to malicious sites. This phishing campaign was highlighted by blockchain investigation firm Peckshield on August 7, just a day after Aave's significant milestone, which saw its net deposits triple from around $18 billion the previous year. Users clicking on these fraudulent links risked irrevocably losing their funds. It is critical for crypto investors to verify website URLs and take immediate action to secure their wallets if compromised, including transferring funds to a secure wallet and revoking wallet permissions through authorized services. As phishing schemes continue to pose serious risks, heightened vigilance and ongoing awareness are essential for all participants in the crypto ecosystem.
