Kain pointed out a significant dilemma faced by builders in the crypto space: the balance between optimizing user experience and adhering to existing building patterns. He emphasized that many are trapped in conventional frameworks that hinder truly user-friendly experiences. He believes rethinking these patterns is vital for the progress of decentralized applications (dApps).
2. Historical Evolution of Wallets
Kain provided a timeline of the evolution of crypto wallets, starting from the command line tools used in Bitcoin's early days to the more user-friendly centralized exchanges. He pointed out that while there have been advances, such as the introduction of multisig wallets and hardware custodians like Trezor and Ledger, the user experience has not significantly improved in a meaningful way for almost a decade.
3. The "MetaMask Gravity Well"
Kain introduced the term "MetaMask gravity well," describing it as an ecosystem wherein the success of MetaMask as a browser wallet has led to a stagnation of innovations in user experience. Despite new mobile and embedded wallets being developed, he argued these solutions only provide marginal improvements, leaving the build community stuck in this familiar yet limiting paradigm.
4. The Trade-off Challenge for Builders
Kain highlighted an ongoing challenge for developers when creating dApps: they lack control over the wallet and signing experience since they must comply with existing token standards. This restriction makes it difficult to innovate, as any novel wallets or infrastructure often fail to integrate with current dApps, further entrenching the existing ecosystem.
5. Infinex's Unique Approach
Kain explained that when founding Infinex, their main priority was to provide an excellent user experience. He acknowledged the difficulties involved in building an entirely new wallet and app system but emphasized that it was essential for achieving their UX goals. This involved creating an all-in-one platform where users can smoothly interact with multiple dApps while enjoying a consistent experience across different chains.
6. Launch of Infinex Connect
In his talk, Kain mentioned the upcoming launch of Infinex Connect and its accompanying SDK, designed to make onboarding to dApps seamless. This will enable various dApp developers to integrate with the Infinex ecosystem, allowing users to connect with familiar apps without the complexities currently encountered in separate wallets and networks.
